The American Sleep and Breathing Academy (ASBA) is made up of providers who have been providing oral appliance therapy in the medical model for decades. Many ASBA members are pioneers in the field. \nASBA members can help doctors to better understand current health care issues and tomorrow’s model of healthcare. As we look to the future\, it is likely going to be mandatory that doctors attain a certification within DSM. The ASBA is an inclusive organization. This is especially important when it comes to certification\, because we believe all of our doctors should be certified. \nDSM is a unique arena for dentists to practice. According to most states’ Dental Practice Acts\, dentists are allowed to diagnose and treat dental disease as needed. However\, in the DSM arena\, this is not the case. In the DSM arena\, dentists are allowed to treat life threatening medical conditions after they have been diagnosed by physicians. Physicians are obligated to provide the best care for their patients\, therefore they must be overly fastidious when it comes to referrals. Physicians are required to be certified in their field\, and certification for sleep dentists will eventually be mandatory. \n2023 Diplomate Written Exam \nThe ASBA Diplomate Written Exam is scheduled for Sunday morning 8:00 am July 22nd\, in Scottsdale\, AZ.
