Keynote Speaker to Present Narcolepsy Findings at Sleep & Wellness Conference
The American Sleep & Breathing Academy (ASBA) announced that Dr. Emmanuel Mignot will be a keynote speaker at Sleep & Wellness 2014: A Conference for Professionals. The conference will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona, on May 1-3, 2014. Dr. Mignot will present his newest research findings on diagnosing narcolepsy in patients. All conference attendees are invited to attend Dr. Mignot’s speech.
Mignot is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford University and the director of the Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine. He is internationally recognized for discovering the cause of narcolepsy. Most of his current research focuses on the neurobiology, genetics and immunology of narcolepsy, a disorder caused by hypocretin (orexin) cell loss, with indirect interest in the neuroimmunology of other brain disorders. His laboratory uses state of the art human genetics techniques, such as genome wide association, exome or whole genome sequencing in the study of human sleep and sleep disorders, with parallel studies in animal models. His laboratory is also interested in web-based assessments of sleep disorders, computer-based processing of polysomnography (PSG), and outcomes research.
The ASBA will collaborate with the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) at this conference to assist both organizations in their mission to improve patient care through clinical and continuing education. With its multidisciplinary approach to sleep medicine education, this conference will be the first of its kind. The event will be geared toward physicians, dentists, physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists and sleep technicians.
