It seems there aren’t enough congratulatory words to describe how amazing and educationally enriching this year’s annual ASBA meeting in Houston was. It simply was a powerful and eye opening event. I have walked by and spoken to so many attendees, and they too had expressed this is the best dental sleep conference they had ever went to.
First, the opening lecture with Dr. Timothy Adams had made the entire room have a paradigm shift. Thinking out of the box with quantum physics, biotensegrity, and fascia, he simply wowed the audience, and they left with so many “ah-hah” moments and pearls. Furthermore, it expanded their knowledge into TMJ-TMD and orofacial pain, as all of that, airway, apnea, distortions, and strains all had to do with posture. Teaching the dentists and allied health professionals about proper syntax and order of treatment was definitely eye opening for all who were present. It was indeed unforgettable.
Next, Day one track for Introduction to Dental sleep medicine, taught by myself and Dr. Toshi Hart was unbelievably fantastic as well. It was fantastic because the attendees were alert and paying full attention. They asked very important questions and learned quickly and efficiently. The ones scheduled for the written exam to become board certified with ASBA Diplomate credentialing ALL passed their exam! The other amazing aspect is that they all know that education is a forever commitment. The attendees were all excited to sign up to ASBA’s study club, and they all want to pursue and enrich their own knowledge and treatment they can offer to their patients. They also expressed that they want to do pediatrics- kiddos as well, because they want to prevent a lot of airway and growth problems at as young of an age as possible.
So, you see, the positive energy, the meeting’s environment, the camaraderie and support from everyone there created a powerful aim to be reckoned with. And it is with that note, I am so looking forward to the bright future of sleep medicine through the magnificent lens from the American Sleep and Breathing Academy.
