Some dental professionals attend a conference and walk away with a tote bag and a few business cards. Dr. Marija Mitic, DDS, D.ASBA walks away with clinical protocols she's applying the very next Monday morning.
That's the ASBA difference — and Dr. Mitic will be the first to tell you it's not even close.
A Doctor Built for This Work
Dr. Mitic's path to dentistry began long before she ever set foot in a dental school. She was raised in a family dental practice led by her grandfather and mother, developing a deep love for the profession early in life. After earning her dental degree in Serbia and practicing alongside her mother for several years, she relocated to the United States and completed her education through the prestigious International Dentist Program at Loma Linda University in California — where she graduated with honors and served as a clinical instructor even as a student.
Today, Dr. Mitic is the founder and clinical director of Healing Dentistry in Phoenix, Arizona — a holistic, biologic practice with a philosophy built around whole-body wellness. Her specialty areas include safe amalgam removal, ceramic implants, advanced laser treatments using the Fotona LightWalker system, biomimetic dentistry, and occlusal therapy. She also operates a dedicated Sleep Apnea and Snoring Clinic and runs a Dental Assistant Training School out of the same practice.
The Diplomate Who Keeps Learning
In 2025, Dr. Mitic earned her Diplomate in Sleep Medicine — the D.ASBA credential — a designation that reflects years of focused study in sleep-related breathing disorders and a commitment to the highest standards in dental sleep medicine. She is an active member of ASBA, AACA, KOIS, gIDE, and AAFE.
But credentials alone don't tell her story. What sets Dr. Mitic apart is her relentless pursuit of applicable knowledge — training that doesn't just look good on a wall, but changes what happens at the chair.
Not All Conferences Are Created Equal
Earlier this year, Dr. Mitic attended another dental sleep conference right here in Phoenix. On paper, it checked the boxes — prominent names, a full agenda, a polished venue. But when it was over, she left with something she's come to recognize as the telltale sign of a conference that missed the point: a pile of business cards and not much else.
"It was really more about showing face," she said. "You network, you shake hands, you see who's in the room. That has its place — but you don't walk out of there a better clinician."
ASBA is a different experience entirely. The sessions are dense with real clinical information. The speakers share specific, tested, immediately actionable protocols — not polished talking points designed to fill a time slot. And the culture ASBA has built around its conferences is one of genuine education, not performance.
Dr. Mitic puts it simply:
"I've been to a lot of conferences. The difference with ASBA is night and day. You walk out of that room on Saturday and you're applying what you learned on Monday morning."
A Talent Recognized Beyond Dentistry
Dr. Mitic's reputation extends well beyond the dental community. The late Mark Brnovich — Arizona's 26th Attorney General and a tireless advocate for the people of this state — had the opportunity to meet Dr. Mitic personally before his passing earlier this year. He was so impressed by her expertise and skill that he visited her practice at Healing Dentistry firsthand. By all accounts, he left blown away.
That kind of recognition from a public figure of Brnovich's caliber speaks volumes. Dr. Mitic doesn't just talk about whole-body wellness — she delivers it in ways that are impossible to ignore. And in a state that Brnovich devoted his life to serving, it's fitting that one of its most prominent voices took note of what she's building in Phoenix.
Caring for Those Who Gave the Game Everything
Dr. Mitic's reach extends to some of the most recognizable athletes in the country. Through her work alongside ASBA founder David Gergen and the NFL Players Association, she has been treating former NFL players — men whose bodies and sleep health have taken an extraordinary toll from years at the highest level of the sport.
This partnership reflects both the credibility Dr. Mitic has earned in the sleep medicine world and the trust the NFLPA places in ASBA-trained clinicians to deliver elite-level care. These are patients who need more than a standard of care — they need the best. And that's exactly what Dr. Mitic brings.
We're Proud to Call Her One of Our Own
Dr. Mitic represents exactly the kind of clinician ASBA exists to support and equip — curious, driven, holistic in her approach, and deeply committed to her patients' overall health. Her practice, her Diplomate, and her growth are a testament to what's possible when great clinicians connect with great training.
